Европа в ноябре готовится к рождественскому посту 11 ноября — День святого Мартина. Этот праздник любят в Старом Свете. Традиционное блюдо, которое готовят почти в каждой семье — жареный гусь. В этот день на столе много различных яств. Такое изобилие не случайно — День святого Мартина последний праздник перед долгим рождественским постом. Люди веселятся, едят много вкусной пищи, чтобы затем вплоть до 25 декабря (до католического Рождества) не есть пищи животного происхождения. Празднуют День святого Мартина во многих странах Европы одинаково. Во многих кафе и ресторанах подают жареного гуся и молодое вино. Когда стемнеет, во всех населенных пунктах проходят процессии поющих детей с зажженными фонариками. Считается, что когда дети идут по улицам, то Всевышний обращается к ним и помогает стать добрее и отзывчивее.

On November 11th Europe is preparing for the Christmas fast — St. Martin's Day. This holiday is loved in the Old World. A traditional dish that is prepared in almost every family is roast goose. On this day, there are many different dishes on the table. Such abundance is not accidental — St. Martin's Day is the last holiday before the long Christmas fast. People have fun, eat a lot of delicious food, so that they don't eat animal food until December 25th (before Catholic Christmas). St. Martin's Day is celebrated in many European countries in the same way. Many cafes and restaurants serve roast goose and young wine. When it gets dark, processions of singing children with lighted lanterns take place in all settlements. It is believed that when children walk through the streets, the Almighty turns to them and helps them become kinder and more responsive.
