В конце 17 века в Америке зародился парусный спорт. Первый яхт-клуб появился в 1811 г. в Нью-Йорке. Изначально парусный спорт был лишь увлечением аристократов. В дальнейшем благодаря его популярности из чисто аристократического занятия превращался в спорт относительно массовый.
